Royal response from His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh on the occasion of his 98th birthday.
Born Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark to Their Royal Highness Prince Andrew and Princess Alice (born a Princess of Battenberg) he was their fifth child and only son. Before he marriage he renounced his titles of Prince of Greece and Denmark. The day before his wedding he was created His Royal Highness by His Majesty KIng George VI and on the day of his wedding he was created The Duke of Edinburgh, The Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich of Greenwich in the County of London. He was created a Prince of The United Kingdom 22nd February 1957.
On 20th November 1947 he married Her Royal Highness The Princess Elizabeth daughter of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth of The United Kingdom at Westminster Abbey, London. They have four children together, three sons and one daughter; Charles, The Prince of Wales born 14 November 1948, Anne, The Princess Royal born 15 August 1950, Prince Andrew, The Duke of York born 19 February 1960 and Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex born 10 March 1964.
