Response from Richard C. Compton of Newby Hall in response to a letter I sent to him about Newby Hall’s episode of An American Aristocrat’s Guide to Great Estates which was on the Smithsonian Channel.
An American Aristocrat’s Guide to Great Estates is a show hosted by Julie Montagu, Viscountess Hinchingbrooke and the first season features a total of eight of the Great Estates of The United Kingdom. It is an unique show as it gives insight into the homes and their histories as well as talks about the cost of running the Estates and how money is raised to keep the Estate running and not in ruin. It shows how these magnificent places are not only pieces of history but also their family’s home and is their roof over their head.
The response is in the form of a letter and thanks me for my letter and hopes that I now have an appreciation that it is not easy to live in a historic home but that it is important to preserve the history and culture of the homes.
