Response from The Right Honourable The 8th earl and Countess of Carnarvon in response to a letter I sent them about the affect of the Corona Virus on Highclere Castle and the family.
The Earl of Carnarvon full title Earl of the Town and County of Carnarvon, in the Principality of Wales created in 1793 in The Peerage of Great Britain for Henry Herbert, 1st Baron Porchester by George III. The subsidiary title attached to the Earldom is Baron Porchester, of High Clere in the County of Southampton in 1780 in The Peerage of Great Britain by George III.
The family seat is Highclere Castle.
Highclere Castle was the setting for the acclaimed period drama Downton Abbey.
The reply is in the form of a postcard with a picture of Highclere castle on the front and on the reverse is a message from Lady Carnarvon.

Just a note to say thank you for your kind letter. You are right- it has been challenging, but we are lucky to be open with our gardens. I hope visitors find them beautiful.
